In 2014 four community members came together to establish the Monroe County Community Foundation in partnership with the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio (FAO). Nikki Baker-Lude, Ryan Moyer, Karena Reusser, and Gwynn Stewart created the permanent endowment fund at FAO to help Monroe residents give locally, ensuring Monroe County resources benefit its citizens and communities forever.
Funding Areas
Grants will be awarded across five areas essential to creating and sustaining transformative change: arts and culture, community and economic development, education, environmental stewardship, and health and human services. Emphasis is on supporting community members of all ages who are spearheading projects that create opportunities, meet pressing needs, and unleash the potential within Monroe County. Applications for youth-led projects are encouraged as well.

- Awards are anticipated to range from $500 to $2,500. Requests above this may be considered based on potential impact.
Eligibility Criteria
- Nonprofit and public organizations are eligible for this grant opportunity. Nonprofit organizations include 501(c) organizations under the Internal Revenue Code. Organizations other than 501(c)(3) may be asked to confirm the charitable purpose of the proposed activity.
- Public organizations include public school districts, government subdivisions like municipalities, and other entities that are audited through the Auditor of State.
- Groups without either status but working in fiscal agent partnership with either a nonprofit or public entity are eligible to apply but will be asked to identify the specific fiscal agent partnership.
IRS Decision Letter or Audited Financial Statements
- If you are a 501(c), email a copy of your organization’s IRS Decision Letter.
- If you are a school or government office, email your Audited Financial Statements.
- If you are working in a fiscal agent partnership, email a copy of your fiscal agent’s IRS Decision Letter or Audited Financial Statements.
