Details:
Only qualifying agencies operating emergency food security programs primarily for Bergen County residents in Bergen County will have access to this grant funding. This grant funding will specifically support long-term sustainability projects in order to ensure the health and well-being of Bergen’s robust food security programs and will not support day-to-day needs or emergent requirements.
Goals
- Assist local Bergen County emergency food providers and meal distributors with critical infrastructure investments at their organization’s site to ensure their program’s sustainability.
- Seek to enable emergency food providers in Bergen County to increase refrigeration or freezer capacity to offer fresh food items to their client population.
- Provide improved technological solutions or fill technological gaps to assist local Bergen County emergency food providers with better ability to track inventory needs, maintain client information, and conduct consistent marketing and outreach into their local communities.
- Assist local emergency food provider efforts in the development of much-needed social service programs for their client population at their agency site, or provide direct information and navigation for how to obtain critical services.
Funding Information
- Eligible applicants are allowed to apply for up to $15,000.00, to either cover the costs of a single expense, multiple expenses not to exceed a total of $15,000.00, or to contribute to offsetting a larger investment being undertaken by the Applicant.

The following categories represent the approved projects or expenses for grant funding in this application. The examples in each category provide some context for what is allowable but are by no means exhaustive.
- Capacity Building/Infrastructure Enhancements of Food Distribution or Storage Site:
- Refrigeration – commercial refrigerators or freezers
- Warehouse Equipment
- Reusable Containers for Distribution Purposes (does not include reusable bags)
- Hand trucks/Carts
- Shelving
- Electrical and/or Carpentry Upgrades
- Transportation Needs/Repairs
- Weatherization/Health and Safety
- Outdoor Tents
- Heaters
- Outdoor Lights
- Technology
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a Food Security Program located in Bergen County that serves primarily Bergen County residents. Examples of Food Security Programs:
- Food Pantry
- Meal or Food Delivery Service
- Community Food Distribution
- Congregate Meal Provider (including Soup Kitchens)
- Residential Meal/Food Program
- Must have a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN) or Employee Identification Number (EIN). Your agency will be asked to submit an IRS W-9 Form with your application.
