The Arts and Culture Fund was created with the recognition that arts and culture in Mendocino County are integral to the well-being and vibrancy of the community.
The Arts and Culture Fund is comprised of several funds including the A.D. Abramson Endowment Fund for the Visual Arts, the Arts in the Schools Endowment Fund, the Community Endowment Fund, the Fund for Visual and Performing Arts, the Judy Pruden Fund for Historical Preservation, and the Textile and Fiber Arts Endowment Fund.
Funding Priorities
Funding priorities include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting or promoting community groups or accomplished local artists in their creation of high-quality art that will be displayed in public spaces. Please note: Permission for public art installation must be secured with an MOU from the entity where it will be installed (e.g. park, civic building, library, hospital, city, etc.)
- Supporting the work of trained, professional artists in classrooms throughout the county and providing artists with training and other resources that facilitate high quality arts education in K-12 classrooms.
- Providing grants to bolster effectiveness and success in delivering performing and visual art experiences including those that promote health and well-being, with a focus on music, theater, dance, film, visual art and design, and related multidisciplinary work.
- Making arts programming accessible to accomplished and amateur Mendocino County residents and visitors of all ages through workshops or master classes.
- Providing support for efforts that maintain and grow audiences of visual and performing arts in Mendocino County.
- Supporting community-based small projects with long-lasting impact that involve the public (all ages) in the understanding and appreciation of Mendocino County’s history, such as historical publications and exhibits, marketing materials for historical tours, and historical information/plaques/interactive media that are fitting for the “sense of place.
- Supporting projects that encourage the practice, appreciation, and/or education of traditional and contemporary textile and fiber arts such as special projects, speakers, publications, exhibitions, community or school education programs, etc.
Funding Information
- Total Funding Available: $50,000;
- Grant range $1,000-$5,000.
Eligibility Criteria
All applicant organizations must:
- Serve residents of Mendocino County or applicants not headquartered in Mendocino County must ensure that all grant dollars requested are spent within the County.
- Be legally chartered in California and in possession of a determination letter from the IRS declaring the organization a public charity that is exempt from federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3); or be a school district, tribe, or special district (e.g., community services, recreation, fire protection); or have an aligned mission with a fiscal sponsor.
- Have one year of operational history after receiving charitable status.
- Conduct business without discrimination on the basis of race, color, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, or religious affiliation.
- Eligible project expenses may include indirect or administration costs.
