This grant opportunity is funded through the voter-approved 5% landfill surcharge fee on waste deposited in St. Louis County landfills. The grant is not designed to cover all costs of projects. The costs are meant to be shared with the municipality. No administrative costs will be covered. They will not reimburse for time spent on paperwork related to this grant. This grant is designed for reimbursement only. Proof of payment must be submitted for reimbursement. Invoices must be turned in in a timely manner. Performance on past grants can influence future funding.
No municipality may receive more than $25,000 in one year without County Council approval. Municipalities may only have one grant open at a time. Previous grants must be closed in Good Standing before a new grant application can be considered.
Targeted waste diversion projects include:
- Electronics recycling drives
- Backyard food waste composting
- Community festival recycling
- Paper Shredding.
Things they do not fund (this is not a complete list):
- Community clean-ups
- Tire disposal
- Household Hazardous Waste collections.
