The scholarship may be used for such items as fees for a music or art camp, studying dance at a local dance company, or taking private lessons with an art or music teacher. The scholarship may not be used to fund college attendance.
The scholarship is named for Harry Barnes and Vaud Ancil Travis, III, two long-time and strong supporters of the Arts Council of Moore County and the arts throughout Moore County. Additional funds have been created in someone’s honor or memory. These funds include:
- Barnes-Travis Arts Scholarship
- This scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to pursue their interest in any arts genre.
- Carol Lawson Rouhier Visual Arts Scholarship
- Awarded in memory of Moore County artist and longtime Arts Council member, Carol Lawson Rouhier, this scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to pursue their interest in the visual arts.
- Byles Percussion Scholarship
- In memory of David Byles, this scholarship is awarded to applicants wishing to pursue their interest in percussion.
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be in grades 6–12 and attending a Moore County (NC) public, private, charter or homeschool.
- Must have a demonstrated interest and talent in at least one arts discipline.
- Must be registered, or in the process of registering, to attend an arts program or to take private art lessons. These funds are NOT for college attendance or tuition.
- Must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
