The Sports Event Funding (SEF) Program provides financial assistance to support major sporting events that provide significant economic impact to Allegheny County. Qualifying events include athletic or Esports events, whether professional or amateur, that are regulated and sanctioned by a regional, national, or international organization or association.
Submitted applications will be evaluated on the following factors:
- Impact of the event on the Allegheny County economy
- Potential to attract visitors from outside of the immediate area
- Potential to provide high-value exposure to the region
- Financial need and level of private investment
- Event quality, readiness, and likelihood of success
- Diversity, accessibility, and environmental sustainability
Eligible expenses include, but are not limited to, payments to vendors, advertising, marketing, venue rental or expense, equipment rental, promotional materials, production costs, and fees and costs for officiants
Funding Information
The financial assistance may be provided as a grant or a loan, for eligible expenses, in an amount not in excess of $75,000, for events to occur within two (2) years of the date of application.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants are:
- Sports PITTSBURGH, as the entity overseeing the local support for the event, or
- the legally existing entity or organization that would contract for the holding of the event (must have been in existence for at least two (2) years).
