The Moody Fund for the Arts (MFA) was created in 2017 as a permanent endowment that would help fund the work and projects of small and emerging arts organizations supported by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture (OAC).
Proposals must be entered in one of five categories:
- New works, commissions, unique presentations
- General program & operating cost support
- Community focus performances/artist-in-residency programs
- Capacity building
- Cultural equity/new initiatives (Non-performance).
Funding Information
The limit for the individual grant awards for 2024 is $12,000.
Eligible Projects
The MFA desires to provide flexible grants supporting creative and innovative projects and programs, with strong metrics of progress and success. To align with this focus, successful submissions may include:
- Commissions of original works and artistic collaborations
- If the collaboration is among a qualifying small group and a non-qualifying larger organization, the grant request must come from, and the award go to, the qualifying small group
- Support for new works, innovative programs or offsetting rent and production costs at Moody Performance Hall
- Programs, projects and exhibitions that address important issues of cultural equity and community access to the arts
- Programs that create and deliver cultural experiences to all parts of Dallas
- Operating, staff and marketing support for new initiatives
- Support of production costs and capacity building
- Hosting artist-in-residency programs
- Other projects deemed important to the vibrancy of the arts in the city
- Programs/projects must take place in the city of Dallas.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for submission, the applicant organization must:
- Be based in, or have a permanent office, in the city of Dallas
- MFA is not able to award grants to individual artists nor to “fiscal sponsors”
- Have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, and be specifically classified as a Public Charity in the Internal Revenue Code
- Supported by the City of Dallas Office of Arts and Culture:
- Approved for OAC funding in the City’s current fiscal year up to the MFA filing deadline (Oct. 1, 2023 – Mar. 8, 2024) – or
- Successfully executed an OAC-funded program in the City’s last fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2022 – Sept. 30, 2023) including meeting OAC reporting requirements
- Have an annual operating budget of less than $1 million
- Be sustainable and demonstrate effectiveness and credibility
- Organization should have a three-year history of providing relevant work and services (this does not mean the group has to have been a 501(c)(3) or OAC supported for three years)
