To support doers and organizers in rural communities, the Blandin Foundation is offering flexible grants for projects and initiatives that move small communities forward. The foundation aims to award a total of $1M in grants.
They expect Rural Leader Boost grants to range from $5,000 to $150,000 – with average grants at about $50,000. All grants will be awarded to rural Minnesota leaders working in communities of fewer than 20,000 people.
Selection Criteria
They are seeking applicants who are:
- Engaged in rural Minnesota.
- Based in a rural Minnesota community of 20,000 residents or fewer.
- Connected with a Minnesota-based, charitable 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, a governmental unit, or a Tribal governmental unit.
- Working on collaborative projects or ideas that have a charitable purpose and broad community benefit.
- Aligned with the Blandin Foundation Vision of a rural Minnesota that welcomes diversity, addresses injustice, and embraces change to create a sustainable and equitable future.
Projects not eligible as part of this opportunity:
- Projects outside of the state of Minnesota
- Religious activities
- Medical research
- Travel grants for individuals or groups
- Camping or athletic programs
- Ordinary government services
- Grants solely intended to influence specific legislation or a specific candidate
Letters of Interest will be ranked according to the following criteria:
- The project’s ability to inspire action that moves the community forward.
- The degree to which the project is inclusive and collaborative.
- The project’s potential for building toward an equitable and sustainable future.
