The Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) seeks eligible entities to help refine what the District’s path to electrification should look like with respect to the priorities and challenges of disadvantaged communities.
Donor Name: Department of Energy & Environment
State: District of Columbia
County: All Counties
Type of Grant: Grant
Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 08/22/2022
Grant Size: $75,000
Details:
The purpose of this grant is to mitigate and adapt to climate change in an equitable way by empowering District residents to influence building electrification and decarbonization policies and programs.
One potential energy savings opportunity for a building not meeting the BEPS is known as “building electrification” or “electrification.” Electrification involves converting from a fossilfuel burning system – such as a gas-fired furnace, boiler, or stove – to an electric alternative – such as heat pump heating, cooling, and water heating, or induction stovetop. This takes advantage of how energy-efficient an electric alternative can be.
Electrification can also provide non-energy benefits, such as cleaner indoor air, the potential for lower utility bills, and more comfortable living conditions.
