The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program provides annual grants on a formula basis to states, cities, and counties to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons. The program is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, Public Law 93-383, as amended 42 U.S.C. 5301 et seq.
The City of Elk Grove became an entitlement jurisdiction in 2003 and receives federal CDBG funds directly from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
The CSG program is a local grant program that funds a variety of activities serving Elk Grove residents. Funding from this program has provided senior meals and food for the Food Bank, staffing support for senior and youth programs, emergency funding for utility assistance, and other activities.
With funding made available through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA), the ARPA Nonprofit Grant program offers limited, one-time funding to support organizations, programs, and activities that benefit Elk Grove residents disparately impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and its economic effects. Eligible activities include those such as implementation of prevention or mitigation measures to contain the spread of the virus, new programs designed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and programs designed to serve a population disparately impacted by the public health emergency and its economic impacts, such as lower-income households.
