Objectives
The objectives include:
- assessing knowledge and attitudes about influenza and COVID-19 vaccination coverage and mandates among undergraduate students;
- identifying barriers and factors associated with likelihood of influenza and COVID-19 vaccine uptake;
- designing, implementing, and assessing the effectiveness of one or more approaches to increase influenza and COVID-19 vaccination coverage among undergraduate students; and
- performing a cost-assessment of the intervention(s). The study design will be a include a pre- and post-intervention survey, randomized controlled trial of one or more interventions informed by a pre-intervention survey, and a cost-analysis of each implement intervention.
Target Population
- The target population of this research activity is undergraduate students attending 4-year IHEs, half of which have instituted a mandate for influenza or COVID-19 vaccination and half of which have not instituted a mandate(s). Only undergraduate students attending IHEs that do not have a mandate should be included in the randomized control trial. Those attending IHEs with and without mandate(s) in place should participate in the pre-intervention survey and only those attending IHEs without mandates should participate in the post-intervention survey.
- Recruitment of IHEs that are geographically, socio-economically, and racially and ethnically diverse is encouraged. The IHEs selected should, however, have similar key characteristics: 4- year institutes, proportion of students living in on-campus housing, and proportion of students enrolled in in-person classes.
