Recognizing that districts are at different places in implementing nonexclusionary practices, the intended outcomes for this program are listed below as a continuum. Grantees will not be expected to demonstrate all outcomes after receiving funds, but rather demonstrate meaningful progress based on their needs and readiness to implement nonexclusionary measures.
Outcomes
- Short-term Outcomes
- Increases in knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs of nonexclusionary discipline topics such as anti-bias trauma-informed care, restorative practices, social emotional learning, comprehensive school mental health, positive behavioral interventions and supports.
- Successful exploration and installation of evidence-based nonexclusionary discipline practices
- Intermediate Outcomes
- Successful initial implementation and progress towards full implementation of evidence based nonexclusionary discipline
- Successful review and revision of discipline policy and procedures to reflect shift in mindsets and evidence-based approaches to nonexclusionary discipline established in each district
- Long-term Outcomes
- Successful full implementation of evidence based nonexclusionary discipline
- Lower rates of suspensions and expulsions for all students
- Decreased discipline disparities for Black, Indigenous, and other students of color as well as students receiving special education services

Funding Information
- This grant opportunity estimates that $1,662,500 annually or $3,325,000 over the next biennium will be available.
- The maximum grant award may not exceed $200,000 total or more than $100,000 per Year.
Grant Period
The term of the initial grant period is anticipated to be from January 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025.

Eligible grantees include school districts, charter schools, Tribal schools, intermediate school districts, and cooperative units as defined in Minnesota Statutes, section 123A.24, subdivision 2.
