The UpPrize Social Innovation Challenge, administered by Innovation Works and fully funded by the BNY Mellon Foundation of Southwestern Pennsylvania, bridges the gap between the nonprofit and entrepreneurial communities and increase the number of impactful technology-based solutions targeted to critical social challenges. For 2022, the UpPrize Social Innovation Challenge will focus on technologies supporting racial and economic justice while also strengthening diversity, equity and inclusion among entrepreneurs and businesses in southwestern Pennsylvania’s tech ecosystem.
This year’s challenge focuses on technologies and solutions focused on racial and economic justice, and includes programming to foster stronger diversity, equity, and inclusion among the entrepreneurs and businesses within southwestern Pennsylvania’s tech ecosystem. They are looking for innovations that can make a difference within 18 months.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- To be eligible to apply:
- You must be 18 years old or older.
- The submitting nonprofit, business or individual must be based in one of these counties in Pennsylvania: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington or Westmoreland.
- You must ensure that your participation does not violate employer’s policies or procedures, or any other third-party rights or obligations (e.g. non-competition agreements).
- You, and your immediate family members, must not be employed or affiliated with BNY Mellon (UpPrize sponsor), or Innovation Works (that’s us) or any of their/our parent and affiliate companies.
