Best Starts seeks proposals that focus on impacting the community in which children, young people and their families live, learn, work, and play by developing policies, creating, or improving systems, and changing environments. Babies, kids, and young people grow into happy and healthy adults when they can actively engage in environments that promote wellness, healing and are hazard free.
Organizations interested in applying should clearly describe in their narrative how they will develop and implement policy, systems, and/or environmental change strategies to impact any or all of the following investment areas:
- Healthy food and food access
- Physical activity
- Unhealthy substances and dangerous products
- Safe and health promoting environments
Funding Information
- The maximum award amount applicants may request is up to $250,000.
- Funding is available for 29-month period spanning the last half of fiscal year 2022 and for fiscal year 2023 and 2024.
Eligibility Criteria
This request is open to nonprofit organizations, community-based organizations, schools & School Districts, tribes and tribal organizations and public or governmental agencies serving communities in King County. Small nonprofits and community-based organizations are encouraged to submit proposals. To be eligible, applicants must show a successful history of working with the community in their application.
Activities not eligible for any of the investment areas:
- Public Health Seattle, King County (PHSKC) will not consider the following types of activities for funding under this RFP:
- Epidemiological projects
- Research studies
- Capital projects
- Construction projects
- Individual or direct services
- Funds may not be used to supplant other County funding
