Funding is available for activities in each of the following focus areas:
- REENGAGE: Reengage students and families in school
- Activities must include the identification of underserved populations of children and youth experiencing homelessness (i.e., students of color, children and youth with disabilities, English learners, LGBTQ+ youth, and pregnant, parenting, or caregiving students) who have been disconnected due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- RESOURCES: Connect students and families to homeless education supports
- Activities must include providing or connecting students experiencing homelessness to resources that mitigate the impacts of COVID-19 and support student academic achievement.
- RECOVER: Support students to recover unfinished learning
- Activities must address learning loss and achievement gaps of students experiencing homelessness.
- Activities must include training, technical assistance, and capacity building provided by the applicant to improve the provision and coordination of services for children, youth, and families experiencing homelessness within an applicant’s organization and/or LEAs/schools.
Funding Information
- The total amount of anticipated funding available for this award period is up to $274,663.50. OSSE anticipates awarding at least six and up to ten organizations based on the highest-ranking applications. Grant funds shall only be used to support activities authorized by the relevant statutes and regulations and included in the applicant’s submission.
- The grant award period will be from October 1, 2022 (or award date) to September 30, 2023.
Eligibility Criteria
OSSE will make this grant funding available through a competitive process. Established community-based organizations (CBOs), faith-based organizations and nonprofit organizations with proven experience and demonstrated outcomes identifying and serving children and youth experiencing homelessness in historically underserved populations and connecting them with education-related support and wrap-around services within the District of Columbia are eligible to apply.
