With this solicitation, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) seeks proposals for rigorous research and evaluation projects targeted toward developing a better understanding of the domestic radicalization phenomenon, and advancing evidence-based strategies for effective intervention and prevention. Under this solicitation, NIJ seeks proposals in four topics as they relate to radicalization to violent extremism:
- Research to informprevention efforts.
- Research on disengagement, deradicalization and reintegration.
- Evaluations of programs and practices.
- Research on countering mis-, dis-, and mal-information.
Goals
The goal of this solicitation is to fund rigorous research and evaluation projects that build knowledge with practical utility for federal, state, local, and tribal criminal justice agencies and their partners engaged in terrorism prevention efforts in the United States.
Objectives
This solicitation has four primary objectives:
- Conduct research to inform terrorism prevention efforts;
- Conduct research on disengagement, deradicalization, reintegration of radicalized individuals and/or violent extremists;
- Evaluate programs and practices to prevent terrorism; and
- Conduct research on the spread of extremist ideologies (specifically the use of mis-, dis-, and mal-information) and how to counter extremist narratives. The deliverables from this solicitation will consist of published works that speak to these objectives.
