The Stormwater Local Assistance Fund (SLAF) provides matching grants to local governments for the planning, design, and implementation of stormwater best management practices (BMPs) that address cost efficiency and commitments related to reducing water quality pollutant loads. Eligible capital projects types can include:
- New stormwater BMPs
- Retrofits of stormwater BMPs
- Stream restoration
- Low impact development projects
- Buffer restoration
- Pond retrofits
- Wetlands restoration.
Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible recipients are local governments, meaning any county, city, town, municipal corporation, authority, district, commission, or political subdivision created by the General Assembly or pursuant to the Constitution or laws of the Commonwealth.
- Any local government that was authorized for SLAF funding in one or more of the FY 2014, FY 2015, or FY 2017 funding cycles that has not received construction bids on all remaining authorized FY 2014, FY 2015, and FY 2017 projects by August 1, 2022 will be ineligible for funding from this (FY2023) funding cycle.
- In addition, in order to be eligible for the FY 2023 funding cycle, projects may not have initiated construction prior to August 1, 2021.
