The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support research to obtain a better understanding of existing vaccination counseling practices for adults, particularly adults who may experience disproportionate burden of vaccine preventable diseases (e.g., pregnant women, racial or ethnic minority groups, those living in rural communities, those with chronic medical conditions); and implement and evaluate interventions, such as a presumptive approach to vaccination counseling and motivational interviewing, to improve adult vaccination counseling practices at all provider levels (e.g., scheduler, medical assistants, nurses, advanced practice clinicians, physicians) in order to decrease misinformation about vaccines, increase vaccine confidence, and ultimately increase adult vaccine uptake and coverage.
To obtain a better understanding of existing vaccination counseling practices, applicants are expected to formulate a research plan in the following phases:
- Phase 1: Assess current vaccination counseling practices within the selected clinical settings.
- Phase 2: Design, implement and evaluate proof-of-concept intervention(s) to improve adult vaccination counseling within the selected clinical settings.
Funding Information
The estimated total funding (direct and indirect) for the first year (12-month budget period) is $500,000. The estimated total funding (direct and indirect) for the entire project period is $1,500,000.

The project period is anticipated to run from 09/01/2023 to 08/31/2026.
