What will the program include/entail?
The fellows will receive training and support on time-tested and evidence-based reporting approaches, participate in project “sprints” to apply these practices to election coverage, and catalyze change in their newsrooms.
The following workshops are planned, and they may add others according to the needs of the fellowship participants:
- Aligning Coverage With Your Mission
- How to Report for Good Conflict
- Solutions Journalism
- Engaged Elections & The Citizens Agenda
- Trusting News Practices.
How much time out of my regular work responsibilities will the training take?
All newsrooms accepted into the fellowship will commit to investing an average of 10-12 hours a month per participant for training, plus time for putting training into practice, tracking progress toward the goals set, and participating in program-related surveys or research.
Who may apply?
Preference will be given to newsrooms in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin, though they also welcome applications from newsrooms from other states. Newsrooms serving and led by historically excluded communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
