The purpose of the Emerging Artist grant is to support and build meaningful relationships among the outstanding creative artists in Pinellas County and their audiences, to provide a solid foundation to nurture the creative community and elevate Pinellas County as an art and cultural destination that draws tourists from around the world.
Funding Information
Grantees are provided with a financial award of $2,000 geared toward the production of new work, a professional mentor that helps guide through development as a professional artist, and an exhibition during the grant period.
Up to 10 grants will be awarded for original work in the areas of:
- Dance and choreography (of all kinds)
- Interdisciplinary arts (a combination of more than one type of genre of art that often involves technology and digital arts)
- Literature including poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction (does not include journalism, self-help, children’s books, and books with a structured commercial purpose)
- Media Arts (including film, photography, computer and digital arts, audio, and interactive media)
- Musical Performance and Composition
- Acting
- Theater Creation (including playwriting, directing, musical direction, stage design, and stage lighting)
- Visual Arts (including 2D and 3D visual arts of all kinds)

Eligibility Criteria
- Creative Pinellas awards the Emerging Artist Grant to artists who:
- Have gained recognition of artistic skill and promise by their peers, audiences and people who think and write about art.
- May be somewhat known but are not widely known outside of the community where they live and work, or outside of Pinellas County/Tampa Bay region.
- Are actively working to improving their skills and standing as an artist.
- Have not yet participated or have limited participation in solo exhibitions, publications, or full performances or productions of their independent artistic work. (For example, may have work shown at local galleries or perform at local venues, or are published in small literary magazines, but have not built a regional or national reputation or similar milestone.)
- Have worked in their type of art for a steady period of time.
- Show a high level of talent in the type of art they create and are submitting in their application.
- To participate in the Emerging Artist Grant Program, applicants need to:
- Be a current resident of Pinellas County for at least one year prior to the date the grant application opened.
- Agree to maintain residency for the full time frame of the grand award period.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Not be enrolled in any high school, undergraduate, or graduate degree program with the same or similar focus to the art work they are creating during the grant award period.
- Not have received an Emerging Artist Grant or Professional Artist Grant from Creative Pinellas.
- Submit a completed online application and all required support documents.
