Claude Moore Community Builders (CMCB) is an annual program that provides rising 10th-12th grade students with opportunities to gain valuable skills while engaging in extensive volunteer work in their communities. During the 10 month program (June-March), participants (a.k.a “Builders”) are expected to complete 100 hours of service. Those 100 hours consist of three components: Builders are matched with non-profits where they serve a minimum of 50 hours as volunteer interns; they will volunteer 30 hours with other Builders at group service events i.e. the Ryan Bartel Foundation’s annual 5k Color Run, Special Olympics tournaments, river clean-ups, etc.; and they must attend 20 hours of CMCB’s interactive training on topics such as communication, leadership, collaboration, mental health, and more.
During their time in the CMCB program, Builders develop valuable professional skills and gain real-world experience but the best part is that they accomplish these goals while serving their communities. Builders who volunteer 100 hours or more may be eligible to receive the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
