The program provides funding support to local 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations for community events anticipated to be held in 2023. There is up to $25,000 of funding available for distribution to qualified applicants.
Each year, the City provides financial support for a limited number of special events to promote cultural, educational, and entertainment events.
Grant Amount
For 2023, $25,000 is expected to be made available. A Special Event Support Review Committee, comprised of community members appointed by City Council, will review all applications requesting City support and make funding recommendations to the City Council, which will then ultimately determine the recipients who will receive funding. The following preferences will be considered during review of applications:
- Preference to fund events where event proceeds are used locally within Simi Valley
- Preference to fund events with greater community/public benefits over events with less community/public benefits.
Criteria
To be eligible to receive City support, event organizers must:
- Obtain a Special Event Permit from the City
- Be a non-profit organization recognized by the IRS
- Provide proof of a valid Business Tax Certificate
- Have a Board of Directors with meetings open to the public
- Provide the City with a report describing (1) how City funds were used and (2) the results of anything described in the recipient’s application for funding
