The objective of the Accessibility Modifications Program is to encourage preservation of the City’s existing housing stock by providing owner-occupied households with a person(s) with a permanent disability the funding needed to make accessibility improvements to their homes.
Program Goals:
- Improve housing stock and stabilize neighborhoods
- Provide accessibility improvements to the homes of individuals with permanent disabilities
Funding Information
- Grant up to $15,000
- Repair costs in excess of $15,000 must be paid for by, or on behalf of, the applicant
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants in title to the property (listed on deed) that:
- Occupy the home as their primary residence, or
- Will occupy the home as their primary residence once accessibility modifications are made through the Accessibility Modifications Program. Note, for applicants who fall under this category, the reason they are not occupying their home as their primary residence MUST BE due to a lack of accessibility that will be addressed with assistance from this program. Applicants will be required to certify that they will reoccupy the home as their primary residence once accessibility modifications are completed.
- Is a household with a person(s) with a permanent disability
- Applicants with household income at or below 80% of Area Median Income
- Applicants that have current homeowners’ insurance
- Applicants that own a single-family dwelling or condominium. Note, in the case of a condominium, or where there is more than one unit in a building, modifications to common shared space will not be eligible.
- Applicants whose household has a member(s) of any age with a permanent disability and currently receives Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits or reasonably equivalent state or federally funded permanent disability benefits. Documentation should support payment of benefits for at least 60 days. Permanent disability may also be verified through a third-party professional who completes the Permanent Disability Verification Form.
