The Music Grant Program is to support schools in their prioritized efforts to embed social and emotional intelligence in students. Student participation in public service activities is widely recognized as an effective way to accomplish this objective. The Music Grant Program endows student public service.

Donor Name: Peter R. Marsh Foundation

Country: United States

State: All Counties

Type of Grant: Grant

Deadline (mm/dd/yyyy): 01/31/2022

Size of the Grant:  $1,000.00

Details:

Secondarily, the Grant:

  • provides funds for music teachers to use to enhance their school music education program,
  • serves the senior citizens of the local community.

The “Music Grant Guidelines” address the compulsory student-service music performances to senior audiences. Live audience performances nurture skill, focus and confidence that pays dividends in other parts of the musician’s life.

The senior audience has considerable availability and is readily accessible in an assortment of senior living facilities, retirement communities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, senior centers, senior events and ceremonies, churches and through military/veterans’ organizations such as the VFW, American Legion and the VA.

No audience has a greater appreciation for children and student performances than do senior citizens. Through post-performance personal interaction with the seniors, the students will receive praise for their public service and encouragement to continue to serve.  The personal engagement with the audience supports the primary purpose of the Music Grant program and the goals of school administrations.

Funding Information

The Grant amount is $1,000.00 with a limit of one Grant per school, per school year.

Eligible Applicants

All public Middle Schools in the United States, which have a music curriculum, are eligible to apply for the Peter R. Marsh Foundation’s Music Grant.  The Grants are conditional as follows:

  • The quantity of Grants for the 2021-22 school year is limited to the first 150 qualified Grant Request forms received and approved by the Foundation.
  • The Music Grant Request Form, provided on this website, must be completed and submitted by a middle school music teacher (“Grantee”) who, in doing so, accepts the responsibility to abide by these Guidelines and conditions of the Music Grant.
  • The Grant amount is $1,000.00 with a limit of one Grant per school, per school year.  Grant checks are made payable to the Grantee’s school and mailed to the attention of the Grantee.
  • The Foundation will notify the Grantee via email if/when their Music Grant Request has been accepted.  Grant payment is mailed to the school within 21 days thereafter.
  • Grant funds must be used for musical education purposes only. How the Grant funds are used for musical education is at the discretion of the Grantee.
  • During the school year the Grantee’s music students must provide a minimum of three (or more) musical performances to the senior citizens of their greater community, and to create the opportunity for the students to have personal visitation with the audience members at each performance.
  • Types of performances (vocals, instrumental), the venue and the number of students who participate in each performance are determined by the Grantee. All music students should participate in a minimum of one performance.
  • Near the completion of the school year the Foundation will provide a “Performance Activity Report” to the Grantee. The Report is to be completed and returned to the Foundation along with a photo (or video) of each performance.
