These grants are available to teachers, schools, nonprofit organizations, and community groups that are either located in Chandler or provide services to Chandler residents or students. They seek proposals that support DEI programs for youth ages 5-18, aligning with the city’s DEI mission: “To cultivate a community and municipal organization that embraces diversity to create a more inclusive and equitable place to live, work, and thrive.
Guidelines
To ensure clarity and thoroughness, please review the following guidelines for the Chandler Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Division and Human Relations Commission mini-grants.
- The event must be held in Chandler. If the organization is not located in Chandler, you must confirm that the event or program will serve a majority of Chandler students.
- Organizations can be funded once per year for one program. Only one application may be submitted per project.
- DEI education includes: presenting a DEI topic to a diverse audience of students OR introducing a new DEI topic to students.
- All proposals must address one or more of the following dimensions of diversity:
- Age
- Socio-economic status
- Culture
- Ability and Disability
- Ethnicity
- Gender and Identity
- National origin
- Race
- Religion
- Sexual orientation
- Language
- Funds are allocated on a one-time yearly basis; continued funding for ongoing projects cannot be guaranteed.
- First priority for funding will be given to diversity education projects or programs in K-12 schools. Other considerations may include (but are not limited to):
- Creativity of the project
- Scope of student participation and involvement
- Interagency collaboration
- Availability of multiple sources of funding
- Ability of the project to be completed within the one-year timeline
- Demonstrated need for the program
- Proposals will be reviewed and awardees will be made by the Diversity Education Mini-Grant Committee. Applications will be evaluated on the following criteria:
- Addressing one or more dimensions of diversity (age, socio-economic status, culture, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion, or sexual orientation)
- Goals and objectives of the project reflect the Chandler DEI mission statement
- Clear and reasonable proposed budget for the project
- The proposal focuses on a DEI project or program for K-12 students
