Details:
Summer programs play a critical role in the lives of their children, adolescents, and teens. These programs provide structured time that serve as safety nets, reduce juvenile crime rates, and support working parents. For many families these initiatives may be out of reach: families may not know how to access programs, enrollment may be limited, fees may be restrictive, transportation could be lacking, or meals might be needed. There may even be fewer opportunities for tweens and teens.
This specific opportunity will support programs and initiatives serving children and youth, ages 0- 25. In this age range, the target population must be those who cannot access summer programs easily due to economic and social reasons. Examples of youth likely to experience barriers are low-income tweens and teens, immigrant children, foster care children, and children living with disabilities.
What PACF Fund
At the May 23, 2023 Virtual Convening hosted by the Community Foundation, Nonprofit Partners and Community Advocates mentioned the following needs for summer programs:
- Funding for staff to engage with youth in summer activities
- Supplemental transportation needs
- Meals otherwise not available for youth to be engaged
- Supports for addressing children with limited English and/or language barriers
- Initiatives that engage children in appropriate, positive summer activities, encourage child participation and promote family engagement
- General supplies related to summer activities and programming
- Innovations that lead toward long-term solutions for addressing how the regional community can engage youth in summer months
One or more of these needs may be included in the request as long as the program/initiative meets with overriding goal of this effort, which is to include low-income youth, ages 0-25, who are normally excluded from summer opportunities
