The Neighborhood Beautification Program (NBP) grant provides funding to Detroit-based block clubs, neighborhood associations, nonprofit organizations, and faith-based organizations to carry out a project on up to four vacant lots in their community.
The Neighborhood Beautification Program is overseen by the City of Detroit’s Housing & Revitalization Department and administered by the Wayne Metropolitan Community Action Agency (Wayne Metro).

Eligible Projects
Projects fall under three categories:
- Community gardens:
- Raised beds for vegetables, flowers, or crops
- Fruit and shade trees
- Ornamental gardens
- Public space improvements:
- Landscaping
- Benches and tables
- Art installations
- Fencing or boulders
- Clean-up activities:
- Brush clearing
- Grading and seeding
- Street/alley clean-ups
- Graffiti and litter removal
Eligible Expenses
Grant funds can be used to cover costs associated with delivering the Neighborhood Beautification Programs (i.e., materials, contractors, supplies, equipment, etc.).
Eligibility Criteria
- Must be registered with the Department of Neighborhoods.
- Must be designated as a 501c (3).
- Organizations without a 501c (3) designation can partner with one.
