Charge Ahead Colorado (CAC) provides grants for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. The program is highly competitive and funding is not guaranteed. The purpose of the application is to provide the evaluation team with an understanding of the applicant’s level of planning and commitment to their charging station project. This Application Guide is intended to lead participants through the Charge Ahead Colorado application and funding process.
Program Goals
The objectives of the Charge Ahead Colorado program are to:
- Promote the installation of electric vehicle charging stations throughout Colorado.
- Increase the number of electric vehicles purchased in Colorado.
- Reduce harmful air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions associated with gasoline and diesel vehicles.
- Gather data on charging stations to better understand their usage.
- Support implementation of the Colorado Electric Vehicle Plan.
Applicants should clearly describe how their organization and their proposed project is uniquely suited to meet theseprogram objectives.

Funding Information
The likely maximum award that will be provided during a single application round is $150,000 – $250,000 per applicant per round.
Project Eligibility
- Eligible applicants include public, private and non‐profit organizations, local governments, school districts, state/federal agencies, apartment/condominium complexes, and businesses. Workplaces and multifamily housing are highly encouraged to apply.
- Manufacturers of charging stations, deeded or assigned parking spaces, and single family homes are not eligible to apply for grant funding.

Eligible costs are limited to the following:
- Charging station and related equipment
- Construction materials
- Permits
- Construction labor costs associated with equipment purchase and installation of Level 2 or DCFC charging stations
- Utility and electric upgrades such as new transformers, or upgrades to transformers, breaker boxes, and electrical panels
- Signage and paint
- Networking/subscription and activation fees
- Warranty costs
- Shipping
- Tax
