The program enables the NJHC to support both existing and emerging local history organizations and practitioners serving diverse audiences. Through the partnership with county re-granting agencies, NJHC support can more effectively reach history organizations and projects in communities throughout the state.
Project Grant Goals
The goal of the CHPP grant program is to engage diverse audiences and practitioners in the active exploration, enjoyment, interpretation, understanding, and preservation of New Jersey history.
Successful proposals may apply for project grant funding through one or more of the following: Broadening, deepening, and diversifying the audience for New Jersey history;
- Strengthening existing New Jersey history organizations or programs;
- Initiating new programming on New Jersey history;
- Increasing accessibility of historical resources to diverse communities;
- Increasing the body and quality of information on New Jersey history available to the public; and
- Preserving materials for the study of New Jersey history.
Funding Information
$2000 to $2500 per applicant organization (based on available funding).
Eligibility Requirements
- Organizations that offer demonstrated statewide history programming and services with a budget under $100,000 may apply for this project grant.
At this time, the County of Warren does not offer General Operating System (GOS) grants.
Groups eligible to apply for CHPP project grant:
- Historic Societies/Historic Commissions
- Preservation Groups/Cemetery Preservation groups
- Historic Sites/Museums
- Libraries
- Departments of Parks & Recreation or other municipal groups
- Human Relations Groups, Churches & Religious Institutions/Organizations, Civic Groups
- Community Organizations/other cultural groups
- Arts Commissions/Celebratory Commissions
The State of New Jersey cannot disallow churches or religious institutions to submit a notice of intent or an application. The application will have to be reviewed by the NJ State Attorney to determine if the request falls under the definition of religious use.
