The Neighborhood Mini-Grant Program provides seed money to diverse initiatives to build environmental, economic, and social resilience and well-being in Tompkins County.
The Neighborhood Mini-Grant program has awarded over $85,000 to support 215 innovative grassroots projects throughout Tompkins County. Their goal is to support and stimulate collaborative resident-based initiatives that develop local leadership and improve local resilience and quality of life by building and promoting environmental stewardship, economic equity, and social justice.
The application form is available on request, and requires the applicant to show how the project will:
- Build resilience, equity, and self-sufficiency in local communities Improve communities’ environmental, social, and economic health in the long term Promote environmental stewardship and green practices Create opportunities for leadership and civic engagement
Funding Information
Grants range from $150 to $750 and support initiatives promoting sustainable food systems, alternative transportation, waste reduction/reuse, energy conservation/fossil fuel use reduction, and environmental education, and addressing social and economic inequality.
Eligibility Criteria
Eligible applicants are residents of Tompkins County, including neighborhood or community organizations, small businesses, groups of neighbors with a specific project in mind, or civic-minded individuals who can show community support for their project. Priority is given to small and/or new entities with relatively few sources of financial support.
