The National Alliance to End Homelessness is soliciting proposals for Housing Solutions for Older Adults Experiencing Homelessness Research Project.
Donor Name: National Alliance to End Homelessness
State: All States
County: All Counties
Type of Grant: Grant
Deadline: 12/20/2022
Size of the Grant: up to $200,000
Grant Duration: 18 months
Details:
The Alliance is seeking to fund research focused on questions such as the following:
- What interventions or programs are associated with permanently housing older adults experiencing homelessness (including forms of Permanent Supportive Housing, Rapid Re Housing, or other subsidies) and other positive outcomes?
- How do needs and housing model outcomes vary by race, culture, gender, or other relevant aspects of identity?
- What kinds of structures and support services do older adults require to ensure that they maintain stable housing?
Proposed research projects should focus on models that successfully serve most older adults experiencing homelessness. Therefore, the focus should not be on those with the highest-level needs or experiencing the most significant number of barriers to housing stability.
Although open to other proposals, the Alliance anticipates a mixed methods approach that includes:
- analyzing data to evaluate a permanent housing model’s success in meeting the needs of older adults experiencing homelessness;
- analyzing data to assess identity-based disparities (for example, those rooted in race, gender, family status, or age); and
- qualitative efforts (surveys/interviews) focused on topics such as housing and health history, suitability of housing placements, and participant satisfaction with the intervention.
The primary outcome of interest is the ability of housing models to ensure housing stability for participants. However, other important topics include health, safety, the ability to connect to valuable social services, and the ability to age in place. Ideally, proposed research projects would focus on how program participants experience and view the housing intervention, requiring surveys and/or interviews.
