Targeted businesses are those which were heavily impacted by the pandemic and received little or no financial assistance. To qualify, businesses must be an independent, for-profit, brick-and-mortar businesses located in incorporated San Leandro, with 25 or fewer employees.

These grants are being provided as a part of San Leandro’s COVID-19 recovery efforts to support businesses and foster community. Thanks to the support of the City Council, San Leandro has allocated $750,000 of the City’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding for small business assistance grants. Through the program, grants of up to $15,000 for around 50 small businesses will be paid to their landlords to cover rent that the applicants owe.

The Grant Program is focused on helping the businesses that have been most impacted by the pandemic and struggled to access assistance. Additionally, training and ongoing services will be provided to support the continued operations and growth of the businesses beyond the pandemic. They encourage all small businesses to apply if they think they may qualify.

Criteria

Eligible businesses must be located in incorporated San Leandro. This program is aimed at brick-and-mortar, for-profit businesses in operation since before March 16, 2020, with 25 or fewer employees, and that lease/ rent their commercial property directly from a landlord. Preference will be given to those with significant loss of revenue between 2019 and 2020, a reduction in workforce between 2019 and 2020, and that received little to no financial assistance in response to the pandemic. Some business types, including corporate-owned chains or franchises, investment and insurance companies, and commercial and residential landlords, are not able to participate.
