Applications are now open for the California Microbusiness COVID-19 Relief Program (MBCRG) to assist qualified microbusinesses that the COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted with grants of $2,500 to each eligible Microbusiness that is selected for an award.

The funding intends to provide relief to the hardest to reach microbusinesses and entrepreneurs that face systemic barriers to access capital. Obstacles include, but are not limited to, businesses owned by women, minorities, veterans, individuals without documentation, individuals with limited proficiency, and business owners located in low wealth and rural communities.
Eligibility Criteria
A qualified microbusiness and owner must satisfy the following criteria and self-certify under penalty of perjury. Please review the eligibility requirements carefully below:
- Applicants must operate within the County of San Benito.
- All taxes must be current and in good standing, with no outstanding tax liens or legal judgments.
- Applicants must submit a signed copy of an IRS w-9 form.
- Applicants must provide a copy of a current Business license.
- Microbusiness must provide 2019 & 2020 tax returns, including schedule C “Profit and Loss from Business” statements or supporting documentation.
- Before December 31, 2019, the Microbusiness began its operations and had been legally operating since that time, including being registered with the California Secretary of State, if required.
- The Microbusiness is currently active and operating or has a clear plan to reopen when the state permits the business to reopen.
- The Microbusiness was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, as evidenced by at least a 10% reduction in revenue from 2019 to 2020 taxable years.
- The Microbusiness had less than fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) in revenue in the 2019 taxable year.
- The Microbusiness currently has fewer than five full-time equivalent employees and fewer than five full-time employees in the 2019/2020 taxable years.
- The Microbusiness is not a business excluded from participation in the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program, as specified in paragraph (2) of subdivision (f) of Government Code Section 12100.82
- The Microbusiness owner is the majority owner of and manager of the qualified Microbusiness.
- The Microbusiness owner’s primary means of income in the 2019 taxable year was the qualified Microbusiness.
- The Microbusiness owner did not receive a grant under the California Small Business COVID-19 Relief Grant Program. (Administered by Lendistry)
- The Microbusiness owner can demonstrate their eligibility as a qualified microbusiness owner by providing a government-issued photo identification (State, Domestic, or Foreign) and documentation that includes the owner’s name.
